When people think of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they often think of the towering drops of The Twilight Zone, Tower of Terror™ or the immersive world of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But for many families, the real magic lies in meeting the stars of the screen face-to-face.

Hollywood Studios offers some of the most unique character encounters in all of Walt Disney World, from Pixar favorites to the icons of the Star Wars saga. If you want to make the most of your time and fill your autograph book, here is everything you need to know.

Your Secret Weapon: The My Disney Experience App

Before you even enter the park, you need the right tools. The My Disney Experience app is non-negotiable for a successful character-hunting day.

-Real-Time Schedules: Unlike rides, character appearances are often intermittent. The app tells you exactly when a character will be appearing (e.g., 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM).

-How to find them: Open the app, tap the Map Icon (second from the left on the bottom), and change the top-center category from “Wait Times” to “Characters.”

-The List View: If the map looks too cluttered, tap “Show List” in the top right corner to see a chronological list of who is appearing and where.

-Where to Find the Stars: Location Breakdown

Hollywood Studios is divided into several "lands," each hosting specific sets of characters.

1. Animation Courtyard (Disney Junior & Star Wars)

This is the go-to spot for younger children and fans of the Force.

-Disney Junior Friends: You can usually find Doc McStuffins, Fancy Nancy, Vampirina, and Pluto right outside the Disney Junior Dance Party.

-Star Wars Launch Bay: Step inside this air-conditioned building to meet the legends. Currently, you can find Chewbacca, BB-8, and the formidable Darth Vader

2. Echo Lake (Classic Icons & Frozen)

-Red Carpet Dreams: This is one of the best spots in the park. Here, you can meet Minnie Mouse in her stunning Hollywood starlet gown and Sorcerer Mickey in his iconic robe from Fantasia.

-Celebrity Spotlight: Just steps away, you’ll find Olaf from Frozen. He’s always ready for a warm hug and is tucked away in a cool, indoor queue.

3. Toy Story Land: Shrink down to the size of a toy and meet the gang in Andy’s Backyard.

-The Lineup: You can typically find Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear greeting guests near the entrance of the land or by Toy Story Mania. Note: These lines are outdoors, so check the weather!

4. Pixar Plaza

This recently reimagined area is a Pixar fan’s dream.

-The Incredibles & More: This is where you’ll find Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Frozone, and the fabulous Edna Mode Joy: Recently, Joy from Inside Out has made Pixar Plaza her home, bringing plenty of yellow-hued happiness to the park.

5. Grand Avenue / Muppet Courtyard

Keep your eyes peeled for "Surprise" sightings here. You can often catch Max (Goofy’s son) or Vacation Goofy near the exit of Muppet*Vision 3D.

Pro-Tips for Perfect Meet & Greets

-Work the "Off-Peak" Hours

Most guests rush to Slinky Dog Dash or Rise of the Resistance first thing in the morning. This is actually a fantastic time to meet Mickey and Minnie at Red Carpet Dreams with a minimal wait. Alternatively, try visiting characters during the first showing of Fantasmic!—most people will be in the theater, leaving the character lines much shorter.

-Prepare Your Gear

Have your autograph book open to a blank page and your pen ready before you reach the front of the line. If you’re using Disney PhotoPass, have your MagicBand or mobile device ready for the photographer to scan.

-Interaction is Key

Characters love it when you engage with their story! Ask Chewbacca how Han Solo is doing, or tell Edna Mode you’re wearing "no capes." These interactions make for the best photos and memories.

-Check for Roving Characters

In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, characters like Rey, Vi Moradi, and Kylo Ren don't have formal lines. They "rove" the land. To see them, you simply have to be in the right place at the right time—keep your camera ready!
